Welcome, family, friends, and browsers of blogs, to The Long Haul -- a chronicle of two cyclists' journey from Burlington, Vermont to Crescent City, California. Our protagonists are Jessa and Nick (otherwise known as Bonesy and Rook): eager young riders with an itch to travel and 3,200 miles of road to scratch with. Originally, we'd resisted the idea of blogging on the grounds that it might feel like a chore; it might still, but with 31 hours remaining the urge to share the excitement has proven overwhelming. Can't say we'll post regularly, but we promise to make it worthwhile when we do.
[R] Don't know what the conventions are for this sort of thing. I'm going to try to keep it informal, though, which as some of you know may be a challenge. Updating primarily from a Blackberry will probably keep most posts pretty pithy, though we'll try to find a real computer every now and then to upload photos, update maps, etc. Not sure what "cetera" entails here, but you can imagine we'll find uses for an internet connection. Also, you'll notice that this blog is registered under my (Nick's) account. That doesn't mean I'm the only one updating it -- the better stuff will be written by Jessa. Just to dispel any confusion, though, I think we might start posts with a [B] for Bonesy and an [R] for Rook.
This post is going to be designated as a stand-alone page, hopefully to be joined by pages about our bikes and maybe at some point our itinerary. Daily journal-type entries will be posted so that the newest is on the front page. Please share this blog as widely as you like: now that we've taken it on we may as well encourage people to read it. Thanks for reading, keep in touch, and have a great summer.
